Clinical Rotations

features/residents/Alberto pacs, web_300.jpg

Clinical rotations outside the Emergency Department account for 25% of the residency. Required rotations are: anesthesiology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics/hand surgery, intensive care unit and cardiac care unit.  There is one required off-site rotation: the New York City Poison Center.

In addition to the required rotations, the residency offers three electives, one that is designated to be for trauma surgery in Las Vegas or an institution with comparable trauma volume, one for pediatrics, and the last of the resident's choosing.  Many residents use the latter rotation as an opportunity to pursue their interests in international medicine by going abroad to places as varied as Nepal, Iran, Puerto Rico, India, and Africa.  Residents also receive protected time for research.
