Scheduling

As an Academic Associate, you must cover at least 2 shifts. St. Luke's shifts are 4hrs long, while the Roosevelt ones are only 3hrs long. There are 2 AAs per shift on most shifts. The weekday 4pm-8pm shifts however (at St. Luke's) can have   up to 3 AAs on them. There is a free shuttle that runs between the St. Luke's and Roosevelt centers. The shuttle leaves St. Luke's from 114th st on the half-hour of every hour (at 8:30, 9:30, etc) and leaves Roosevelt at top of every hour (at 8, 9, etc) from the main entrance.

We really try to accommodate each and everyone's scheduling needs. There is something for just about everyone.   If you so wish, you can do one shift at Roosevelt and one at St. Luke's - or do both at whichever hospital; the decision is up to you. We have no problem with you doing two consecutive shifts, (i.e. 12pm-8pm on Mondays). Be advised however that doing 8hrs all in one shot is quite tiring - so be careful of what you wish for.

Although this is volunteering position, your obligations to work do not change - you must still be punctual. You need a minimum of 70% attendance to receive a recommendation letter from the program director. However, you must ALWAYS maintain a 100% coverage for your shift - at least one person should be there. It is the responsibility of the two or three AA's on the shift to effect this. Shift swapping with other AA's is fine as long as each shift is covered. Any shift where no one shows up means that everyone assigned to that shift gets a double absence. Please keep in mind that illness, exams, MCATs, vacations, etc, all count as absences.

The schedule for this semester is listed in the attached MS Excel file below. The emails of the AAs on the respective shift are listed - if not specified, the email is @columbia.edu. Available shifts are highlighted
